In the midst of all the news about the virus, don’t forget to send in your response to the 2020 Census now. Now that we’re all supposed to be locked down, there’s really no excuse, even if there’s a delay because you have to send it in by mail.
Between March 12-20, Arlingtonians and others will receive official Census Bureau mail that incudes an invitation with detailed information on how to respond to the 2020 Census online. Responding online is strongly recommended. A second option will be to respond by phone; a third option is by a paper questionnaire. NOTE: To complete the Census questionnaire online, you will need Your Census ID included in the invitation letter sent to you in the mail.
The U.S. Census counts every resident in the nation. Tell the Census Bureau where you live as of April 1, 2020, and include everyone living in your home. As mandated by the U.S. Constitution, America gets just one chance each decade to count its population. The results of the 2020 Census will help determine how much federal money Arlington, our neighboring communities, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and other states will receive every year for the next decade. These funds shape the future of roads and transportation, local schools, health care, housing assistance for older adults, fire prevention, wildlife in our parks, and much more. The data also helps determine the number of seats Virginia has in the U.S. House of Representatives. In the past, the 22202 zip-code area has been notoriously undercounted. Everyone’s participation in 2020 can change that.
